After
returning home I began searching for a new friend-(dog).
While attending Conformation, Obedience and Shutzhund
events looking for another GSD.
I became increasingly aware of the Akita breed and admired
their stature and presence. I
began talking with a few breeders, and in 1993 I brought home my
first of many Akita puppies. His name was “Duke”; he was to be a show dog, but he
lacked good conformation and became a champion house dog until he
passed away. I began showing my own Akitas and enjoyed the competitiveness of the sport as well as the friendships that developed. That area of my life has fostered many personal changes and rewards. It lead to realizing another dream when in the summer of 1997 an opportunity to make a living working with dogs came about; I bought Soo’s Creek Kennels. With my Mom’s-(Kathleen) reluctant but enthusiastic help we opened the doors and began a new chapter in our lives, in my life. It is here at Soo’s Creek Kennels that I have enjoyed my greatest and most rewarding accomplishments both as an animal lover and as a person. Most importantly I met and feel in love with Danielle who has given us a wonderful and beautiful daughter named “Morgan Danika”. Together
we have nurtured our Akitas on to some very impressive
achievements; “Miss-D” our first champion, “MO” our goofy American
Canadian Champion, “CK” our BISS Group winning American
Canadian Champion, our Champion and Best Bred-by in Show
“Piglit”, our Champion and Best Puppy in Show “Stealth”,
our Champion “Jigsaw”, new arrival “Freedom” and our
hearts and memories of those that shared our lives if only for a
little while, you are never forgotten, as are the many happy homes
that have the love of some of our few breedings.
Also, the many dogs that we have had the pleasure of
showing, and the joy of a new Champion for our friends and
clients. The
Akita’s Spirit and Strength is synonymous with my feelings for
our great country. We are truly lucky to live in America and we
are equally lucky to have the opportunity to live with our Akitas;
hence our name “American Akitas”.
It does not end there; as you might imagine we have a
preference for American Akitas, as it was that look that first
captured my interest & it is the look that drives our
decisions. “THERE IS A DIFFERENCE”
